The smell of barbecue from down the street is sharp in the warm air. Everyone's out, laughing. My chest feels tight, a fluttery knot under my ribs. Keep replaying that email from Friday, wondering if I missed something, if I said the wrong thing. My hands are clammy. Wish I could just breathe easy.
